K.O.R.E Assessment & Treatment
Kinaesthetic Optimum Recovery Enhancement (K.O.R.E ) is a ground-breaking assessment and treatment system that sets itself apart from conventional therapy by asking a fundamentally different question. Most treatments focus on what you are suffering with but K.O.R.E is all about investigating why you have those symptoms in the first place.
Developed by Dr John Brazier - an honorary Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Oriental Medicine practitioner - K.O.R.E brings together the best of Eastern and Western therapeutic knowledge into a single, cohesive system. It is one of the most genuinely integrative approaches available in clinical practice today, and Elliot at the Mountain Sports Therapy Clinic is one of a small number of qualified K.O.R.E practitioners in the UK.
Why does the 'why' matter so much?
The area where you feel pain is often not the area that is causing it - and until the true root cause is identified and treated, symptoms will continue to return no matter how many times the painful area is worked on.
Consider these examples:
-
Your lower back pain could be caused by a neck restriction.
-
Your knee pain could be caused by a pelvic imbalance.
-
Your persistent headaches could stem from a cranial tension pattern.
-
Your digestive discomfort could be linked to spinal restriction.
This is why so many people find themselves stuck in a cycle of treatment that provides temporary relief but never resolves the underlying problem. K.O.R.E is designed to break that cycle - by mapping the body's complete roadmap of injuries, compensations, and imbalances, and treating the cause rather than the consequence.
What happens in a K.O.R.E session?
Every K.O.R.E session begins and ends with a unique functional muscle testing system. You will be asked to perform a series of simple movements - raising your arms and legs and holding them against gentle resistance - while Elliot assesses the strength and activation patterns of specific muscle groups.
This is not a conventional strength test. It is a highly sensitive diagnostic process that highlights where the body is holding restrictions, compensating for imbalance, or failing to recruit muscles at full power, often in areas that appear entirely unrelated to your symptoms.
Based on the findings from this initial assessment, Elliot will select a targeted combination of Eastern and Western treatment techniques specific to your presentation. These may include any combination of:
-
Pelvic and spinal release techniques
-
Cranial balancing and craniosacral release
-
Ileocaecal valve (ICV) balancing
-
Specialised dry massage and fascial release techniques
-
Joint mobilisations
-
Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture
-
Fire Cupping
-
Abdominal organ massage (Anmo Fu)
-
Muscle enhancement and activation techniques
At the end of the session, the same muscle tests performed at the start are repeated. You will be able to feel the difference in your own body - the change in muscle power, freedom of movement, and ease of function - demonstrating that the treatment has begun the healing process. This before-and-after testing is one of the most powerful aspects of the K.O.R.E system and provides both the practitioner and the client with objective, measurable evidence of progress within a single session.
What can K.O.R.E help with?
K.O.R.E has an exceptionally broad scope of application. It addresses balance across the whole body rather than isolated symptoms, which makes it effective for an extensive range of physical and systemic conditions, including:
-
Chronic and complex musculoskeletal pain - back, neck, shoulder, hip, and joint conditions
-
Sciatica and nerve-related pain
-
Headaches and migraines
-
Postural dysfunction and movement imbalances
-
Digestive conditions - including IBS, bloating, and constipation
-
Fatigue and low energy
-
Stress, anxiety, and nervous system dysregulation
-
Hormonal imbalance and menstrual disorders
-
Insomnia and poor sleep quality
-
Conditions that have not responded to conventional treatment
-
Performance enhancement and injury prevention in athletic populations
K.O.R.E is suitable for anyone - from elite athletes seeking performance gains to older adults managing chronic pain who are looking for a natural, drug-free approach to healing. As with all treatments at Mountain Sports Therapy, a full medical history is taken at the start of your first session to ensure the approach is appropriate for your individual circumstances. Treatment techniques such as Acupuncture and Cupping are unlikely to be used in your first session, but we will be able to provide you with detailed information about those techniques if Elliot believes they will be a beneficial treatment to help you.
Why is K.O.R.E different from other treatments?
Most therapy treats the body in segments. A physiotherapist treats your pain. A massage therapist works on your muscles and fascia. A chiropractor adjusts your spine.
K.O.R.E assesses and treats the body as the single, interconnected system that it is. The muscle testing diagnostic process identifies the chain of cause and effect that has led to your current symptoms, and treatment addresses that chain from root cause to symptoms you experience.
This is particularly powerful for clients who have been managing pain or dysfunction for a long time and have seen multiple practitioners without finding a lasting solution. K.O.R.E very often provides meaningful improvement in the most stubborn and chronic of conditions, not because it is a magic fix, but because it is treating the right thing for the first time, which is the body as a whole.
