Sports Therapy Sessions

Mapping out your path to recovery

This is the main reason we do what we do - to help you overcome any chronic pain, a lingering injury, or a sudden muscular or joint dysfunction that is holding you back from training or riding, or affecting daily life.

We frequently see clients who have spent months or years visiting various doctors and specialists, only to be told they simply have to "live with" their pain. We don't believe in lost causes. Our 60 minute Sports Therapy sessions are designed to uncover the root cause of your issue, provide immediate structural relief, and set you up with a definitive plan to recover from the problem and go on to build a more resilient can capable body.

What our Sports Therapy clients say...

Jenna (29, F) - Stockport

I wish there was an option to rate higher than 5 stars - Adam is truly the best in the business. I've suffered with sciatic nerve/chronic back pain for over 5 years and have tried everything from seeing multiple different physios, chiropractors and even a pain specialist who all had different ideas on what the problem was but ultimately told me that I was a lost cause and that unfortunately I just had to live with the pain. That was until I visited Mountain Sports Therapy.

Not only did Adam give me an actual explanation of the root cause for the first time, but within one session I had noticeable improvement and now, thanks to Adam, I feel like there's a light at the end of a very long tunnel.

I honestly can't recommend Mountain Sports Therapy enough. It's so refreshing find someone who is not only incredibly knowledgeable but actually cares and has a real love for what he does.

What to expect from your first session

Your initial assessment is a 60 minute appointment that follows a methodical approach to understanding and addressing the issue you are experiencing. We break it down into four distinct phases:

1. Consultation - We discuss the issue to get a full understanding of how it affects you

2. Assessment - We perform appropriate tests to determine the extent of the problem

3. Treatment - We provide any hands-on therapies that could help you in the short-term

4. Education - We guide you through what to do next, so you can help yourself for the long-term

Breaking down the phases of your session

Phase 1: The Deep-Dive Consultation

We start with a conversation about how this issue is affecting you. We want to understand the exact behaviour of your pain: how long it’s been bothering you, what movements trigger it, and what can you do to make it feel better. We ask all the right questions to get a complete understanding of everything. This may include your injury history, your daily habits and lifestyle factors, your training routines and sport demands, or even your desk setup at work or sleeping habits.

We know what things to look out for, that your AI chatbots probably won't know to ask about. This is why seeking professional human help is the best way to leave your pain in the past.

Phase 2: Postural and Movement Assessment

Next, we'll do move onto some appropriate testing. We don't just look at the spot that hurts, we assess the entire movement chain. This could include:

  • Evaluating the range of motion (ROM) in the associated joints.

  • Testing the length, strength and activation potential of surrounding muscle groups.

  • Reviewing your overall movement quality to identify any imbalances, compensations or instabilities.

Phase 3: Targeted Hands-On Treatment

Once we have a better picture of the issue you're presenting, we can apply some hands-on therapy techniques to directly target the affected areas, if this is appropriate. Depending on what your body requires on the day, this may include targeted deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, or joint mobilization.

Whilst this may be just a short portion of the session, it is aimed at helping your body reduce the guarding it may be doing, and allow us to kick-start your recovery.  Hands-on treatments can be very helpful, but they don't always provide the long-term solution. That is why the next phase is probably the most important.

Phase 4: Education and your self-care plan

Ultimately, your long-term recovery happens outside the clinic.  We close your session by identifying everyday habits that might be contributing to your pain or injury. We then collaborate on a sustainable, realistic self-care strategy that you can easily execute at home or in the gym.

Giving you all of the information you need to go away and confidently start implementing the right approach to complete your full recovery.  This may include adapting some daily habits to remove some contributing factors, alongside adding some new movements to your routines to help stimulate your body to repair, regenerate and recover.

This is how we help you overcome your pains and injuries, and prevent them from returning repeatedly in the future.

Our philosophy: Movement is medicine

The biggest fear most athletes and active people have when visiting a clinic is being told, "You need to stop training completely".

We do our absolute best to avoid asking you to stop doing the things you love.

However, if your sport or training approach is the primary driver of your pain or injury, we need to be smart about how we manage your recovery. We're never going to tell you to just sit on the couch and rest, but we may advise you to temporarily dial down the intensity of your training, adapt your movement routines or improve your form where we've identified that this is a contributing factor for your issues. This helps you keep your fitness up and your mind sane while facilitating optimal tissue recovery, because we know how your physical health contributes to your mental health.

How many sessions will you need?

Honestly, we don't have an simple answer for this.

If you've had a recent accident or injury you may just need some simple guidance on how to optimise your recovery in the short-term, then maybe a follow-up massage or hands-on treatment, and you'll be all good to go.

On the other hand, addressing a long-standing, chronic issue that you've been dealing with for months or years could take a lot longer. For something like this you should expect to commit to a primary course of 3-6 sessions over a period of 2-3 months to fundamentally change how your body feels, moves and repairs itself.

While hands-on treatments provide fantastic short-term symptom relief, our movement and exercise rehabilitation strategies are what deliver the permanent, long-term fix.  Your full recovery isn't achieved during the time you spend in the clinic, that's dependent on your actions every single day while you're away from the clinic.

Our goal is always to help you completely overcome the issue and ensure it never returns, in as few sessions as possible.  Your commitment to helping yourself if the key, we are here to guide you on that journey and compliment it with the education we provide and hands-on treatments that can help your body optimise repair and recovery along the way.

In reality, if you have a work or training routine that demands a lot from your body, then once you've completed your recovery and are back to your best, you may benefit from some regular massage sessions throughout the year to help you stay in top shape and reduce the chances of things ever getting so bad again in the future.  We'll discuss this together and come up with a smart plan of action that will help you keep performing at your peak and living your best life.
