Abdominal Organ Massage - Anmo Fu
Supporting health from the inside out.
Anmo Fu is a specialised form of Traditional Chinese abdominal massage that works with the soft tissues, organs, and energy channels of the abdomen to support digestive health, hormonal balance, and systemic wellbeing. It is one of the lesser-known but most powerfully effective holistic treatments available - and one that many clients describe as transformative, particularly those who have been managing digestive, hormonal, emotional or lower body complaints for a long time without finding lasting relief.
The word 'Anmo' means massage in Chinese, and 'Fu' refers to the abdomen. Together, Anmo Fu describes a system of gentle but purposeful abdominal massage techniques drawn from Traditional Chinese Medicine, designed to free the organs and surrounding tissues from tension, restriction, and stagnation.
Why is the abdomen so important?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the abdomen is considered a central hub of the body's vital energy - home to many of the most important organ systems and a major site of Qi production and circulation. Tension, restriction, or imbalance in the abdominal region can therefore have far-reaching consequences throughout the body - contributing to symptoms that may appear entirely unrelated to the digestive system.
From a Western anatomical perspective, the abdomen houses a vast concentration of connective tissue, lymphatic vessels, blood supply, and nervous system structures - including the enteric nervous system, often called the 'second brain', which communicates directly and continuously with the brain via the vagus nerve. Tension and restriction in the abdominal fascia and organs can therefore affect nervous system regulation, hormonal function, immune response, and musculoskeletal health in ways that are increasingly understood by modern science.
The relationship between the abdomen and musculoskeletal pain is particularly significant. Many clients presenting with persistent lower back pain, hip tightness, or pelvic dysfunction have an abdominal component to their condition that conventional musculoskeletal treatment simply does not address. Anmo Fu often provides a missing piece of the puzzle for these clients.
What happens in an Anmo Fu session?
Anmo Fu sessions begin with a brief consultation and a K.O.R.E-based muscle testing assessment to identify areas of restriction and imbalance within the abdominal region before treatment begins. Elliot will then use a combination of palpation - skilled, attentive touch - to locate areas of tension, adhesion, or stagnation within the abdominal soft tissues.
Treatment involves specific massage and holding techniques applied with warm oil to the abdomen, working methodically through the different organ systems and fascial layers. Techniques aim to unwind connective tissue restrictions, encourage healthy organ mobility, improve local circulation and lymphatic drainage, and restore the natural movement and function of the digestive and reproductive systems.
The touch used in Anmo Fu is gentle but deeply purposeful. Some areas of significant restriction may feel tender initially - this is normal and typically eases as the tissue releases during the session. Elliot works within your comfort at all times and will communicate with you throughout to ensure the treatment feels appropriate.
What conditions can Anmo Fu help with?
Anmo Fu has a broad therapeutic scope and is particularly effective for:
-
Digestive conditions - IBS, bloating, constipation, acid reflux, and sluggish digestion
-
Lower back pain and sacral pain with a visceral or fascial component
-
Hip tightness and pelvic pain
-
Menstrual irregularity, period pain, and hormonal imbalance
-
Post-surgical abdominal adhesions - including caesarean section scarring
-
Fatigue and low energy with a digestive or systemic origin
-
Stress-related abdominal tension and anxiety held in the gut
-
Food intolerances and associated systemic symptoms
-
Fertility support and reproductive health
-
Weight management support - by improving metabolic and digestive function
Anmo Fu is suitable for most adults, though there are some contraindications - including pregnancy, active abdominal infections, and certain gastrointestinal conditions - which will be discussed fully during your initial consultation.
How does Anmo Fu complement other treatments?
Anmo Fu works particularly well alongside other treatments offered by Elliot at Mountain Sports Therapy. For clients with persistent lower back, hip, or pelvic pain, combining Anmo Fu with musculoskeletal assessment, sports therapy, and rehabilitation often produces results that neither approach achieves in isolation. For clients managing stress, fatigue, or systemic health concerns, Anmo Fu pairs naturally with Acupuncture, Cranial Balancing, and K.O.R.E therapy to provide a comprehensive, whole-body treatment experience.
It is also offered as part of a complete K.O.R.E session when abdominal findings are identified during the initial muscle testing assessment - making the treatment entirely responsive to what your body actually needs on the day.
